Many Chelsea players faced the ‘worst pre-season’ of their careers last year, under their former manager Thomas Tuchel. Chelsea manager Graham Potter revealed in an exclusive interview that many senior players in the Chelsea squad informed him about their disastrous pre-season last year, under previous manager Thomas Tuchel. The team went through a severely unorganized US tour, which led to a breakdown in the relationship between Tuchel and the Chelsea squad.

Graham Potter spoke about Chelsea’s continued struggles in their recent games, as they sit deep in the 10th position in the Premier League. “It’s really tough [to integrate new players and get results.” He further added, “Speaking to a couple of the experienced guys, they thought it was the worst pre-season they’ve had for different reasons. That’s not to blame anybody – that happens. Organizationally, the tour didn’t work as well as they’d like. I wasn’t there so I can’t say.”

Despite the claims of senior players about their experiences in the pre-season, Chelsea was in a much better position in the Premier League, under Thomas Tuchel. However, since Graham Potter replaced Tuchel as their head coach, Chelsea has gone from bad to worse, winning just two in their last 14 games in all competitions. “I’ve been under pressure here for four months from you guys don’t forget,” Potter informed in an interview.

Despite breaking every possible record in the transfer window, and spending over £315 million on new signings, Graham Potter’s side has underperformed in their recent matches. Chelsea’s last match saw them succumb to a 1-0 defeat against Southampton, as they dropped points on February 18. “There was a manager change, old players have left, new players have come in. Then I turn up in the middle of the Champions League, (playing) Saturday-Tuesday, Saturday-Tuesday. We had the most unprecedented injury situation in that period,” Potter explained his situation.

Potter’s side face fourth-placed Tottenham Hotspurs in their upcoming match in the Premier League, on Sunday. Chelsea boss Potter claimed that his squad had good training and showed his confidence in the squad, claiming they will try to get all three points on Sunday.
