Cristiano Ronaldo has received praise from Marcus Rashford, who also expressed gratitude for “everything he has done for Manchester United.” At Old Trafford, Rashford and Ronaldo grew close, and the English forward is obviously sad to see his “idol” depart the club.

After Ronaldo gave a lengthy, contentious interview to Piers Morgan in which he accused the club of betraying him, the two parties came to an arrangement to terminate the 37-year-old’s contract.  In addition, Ronaldo criticized Erik ten Hag harshly and implied that the younger United players did not want to learn from one of the best players in history, referring obviously to himself.

His remarks sparked outrage and disappointment among United supporters and club officials. However, when asked about Ronaldo’s unexpected exit, Rashford was all gushing over the five-time Ballon d’Or winner.

“It has been an unbelievable experience to play with him,” Rashford replied. “He is one of my idols and someone I always looked up to. It is something I can keep with me forever, I wish him all the best and we want to thank him for the things he’s done for Manchester United.”

Marcus Rashford isn’t the only Manchester United player to express gratitude to Cristiano Ronaldo

Rashford has joined Bruno Fernandes and Harry Maguire in paying tribute to Ronaldo while on World Cup duty, despite the fact that many Old Trafford fans and officials feel the Portuguese star has damaged his United legacy. Rashford’s thoughts were echoed by Portugal team-mate Fernandes, who also insisted that he is not required to support either Ronaldo or United.

“I don’t feel uncomfortable. I don’t have to pick a side,” Fernandes told reporters while on international duty with Portugal out in Qatar. “It was a dream come true to play with Cristiano [at United] but nothing lasts forever.”
