Sir Alex persisted Cristiano Ronaldo to not join Manchester City and comeback to Manchester United

Cristiano Ronaldo has admitted that he was “this close” to transferring to Manchester City last summer. However, he decided to stay with Manchester United due to Sir Alex Ferguson’s involvement.

Ronaldo claimed that Ferguson urged him to re-join United when he left Juventus in August 2021 on a two-year contract, heading back to the team where he earned eight major trophies from 2003 to 2009. Ronaldo stated in the Piers Morgan interview, “I spoke with him [Ferguson]… He said to me, ‘You can’t come to Manchester City.’

Other teams were keen on buying Ronaldo from Juventus in 2021. But, the 37-year-old pursued “his heart” and returned to Manchester United, even though they weren’t originally in the running for him.

Cristiano Ronaldo has targeted United’s owners, the manager, and a few players in his latest interview. United announced on Monday that they would respond to Ronaldo’s claims that he felt betrayed by the team and was being released only after gathering all the information.

Co-chairman Joel Glazer, football director John Murtough, CEO Richard Arnold, and manager Erik ten Hag met to address the situation as per Espn. United also decided to seek legal counsel on the best way to proceed.

Ten Hag has told the Glazers, Arnold, and Murtough that he thinks he cannot operate with Ronaldo again. Cristiano told in the interview that he “doesn’t respect” the Dutchman.
