Here are the serious punishment Manchester City could face from Premier League if found guilty of financial fraud

Manchester City has been facing serious charges by Premier League. Premier League accused City of breaching over 100 financial rules between 2009 and 2018. The league had a four-year-long investigation going on against City, and if the charges are proven to be right, the defending champions face serious sanctions. However, there are still speculations about City’s punishment, with some claiming that City will face potential relegation. Others claimed that Manchester City might even be suspended from the football league altogether.

Manchester City also faces the possibility of being stripped of their three Premier League titles won during the period. However, reporter Kaveh Solhekol from Sky Sports have claimed that most people expect a ‘small points deduction’. The Premier League’s ‘Big Six’ Arsenal, Chelsea, Liverpool, Manchester United and Tottenham have demanded the harshest possible punishment for City. They claimed that a monetary fine won’t be much for the current title holders as the club is backed by a state-funded multibillion-dollar entity.

Manchester City were handed a two-year suspension from the European club competitions in 2018 after UEFA claimed that City had ‘serious breaches’ in the Financial Fair Play regulation between 2012 and 2016. City, however, had it overturned by the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS). Lord Pannick KC of Blackstone Chambers, their advocate who led the case, will also be fighting their latest legal battle.

Serie A giants, Juventus also got charged with a 15-point reduction sentence earlier this year which saw the Old Lady drop to the midtable. According to sources close to the matter, Manchester City’s crimes are much graver than that of the Andrea Agnelli regime. It is also being whispered that the FA would like to set a precedence with the verdict to implement the FFP rules more effectively. The verdict is expected to have a domino effect to prevent the free-spending of the likes of Todd Boehly of Chelsea.

Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola is expected to depart from the club while they have an ongoing legal investigation going on against them. Premier League slammed Manchester City with over 100 breaches in the financial fair play between 2009 and 2018. With so many accusations against City, an immediate resolution will not be possible, as the accusations itself were placed after four years of investigations.

Guardiola is expected to depart by the time any potential charges are confirmed against City. The club have yet to confirm the departure of Pep Guardiola and are certain of his future as the manager. However, The Athletic reported that they believe Guardiola will depart in the near future before any accusations are proven to be true.

Earlier in 2020, when the Manchester-based club was handed a two-year-ban and had it overturned in the CAS, Guardiola had said, “If I defend the people and the club it’s because I work with them. When I asked about suspicions or if our people have done something, then I say to them, “tell me”. I said to them “if you lie to me, the day after I’m not here, I will be out and you will not be my friend any more.” If the Spaniard stays consistent with his words, the PL champions will have it very difficult to
