Javier Tebas has been involved in many controversies lately. The President of La Liga has been on social media with Vinicius Jr over racism that the player faced. And now Tebas has been opposed by the fans for his recent decision over the goal line technology.
Notably, Javier Tebas has now decided to the goal line technology will not be used in La Liga from the next season. The reason that Tebas gave for this bold decision has not sat pretty well with the fans.
As per reports, Javier Tebas doesn’t want to make use of goal-line technology simply because it is worth 3 million euros. The La Liga President feels it is not wise to spend such a huge chunk of money on technology.
Goal line technology is available in all the top five leagues. And it has created an impact on the game to a very great extent. Many clubs have won some crucial matches because of this technology.
But sure, Tebas sometimes thinks outside the box. With no goal-line technology in La Liga, the clubs will have nothing but disadvantages on their side. There could be a 50-50 chance without the goal line technology on whether the goal stands or not.
La Liga clubs and fans aren’t happy with this decision of the President and are hoping that he doesn’t go ahead with this. Goal line technology is important in today’s modern football.
Javier Tebas apologizes to Vinicius Jr
Valencia fans racially abused Vinicius Jr a few days back. And after the match, the Brazilian took this matter on Twitter and mentioned Javier Tebas in his comment. The Brazilian wrote, “Once again, instead of criticizing racists, the president of La Liga appears on social media to attack me. As much as you talk and pretend not to read, the image of your championship is shaken.”
He further wrote, “See the responses to your posts and have a surprise… Omitting yourself only makes you equal to racists. I’m not your friend to talk about racism. I want actions and punishments.”
But instead of supporting the player Tebas started backfiring. The President wrote, “Since those who should not explain to you what it is and what it can do @LaLiga. In case of racism, we have tried to explain it to you, but you have not shown up on either of the two agreed dates that you requested yourself.”
He further wrote, “Before criticizing and insulting @LaLiga, you must inform yourself properly @Vinijr. Do not let yourself be manipulated and make sure you fully understand each other’s competencies and the work we have been doing together.”
But after this comment, the President got criticized by many fans for supporting racism and not standing against it. And on Monday Tebas apologized to Vinicius Jr. He wrote, “I feel sorry for what happened, and that’s why we denounced it. And we didn’t just denounce it, we took special actions at his games.”
“We spoke to the clubs so that they could provide more security, identify fans. LaLiga takes care of Vinicius. And, if they misunderstood what happened I have to apologize.”
