Virgil van Dijk has been in praise of his Netherland teammate Jurrien Timber after his performance against Norway last night in the Nations League. The Netherlands were up against Poland for the fifth match of the group stage matches and currently sit on top of the group with 13 points after last night’s victory and have to play Belgium who is on second with 10 points on Sunday with the semi-final place to play for.
Timber was hugely linked with Manchester United and Arsenal all summer and after his wonderful performance with Ajax last season. Erik ten Hag, who managed him last season wanted to sign the player at United but the deal didn’t go through. Van Dijk, Nathan Ake, and Timber played together in a back three formation in the Netherlands’ 2-0 victory in Poland on Thursday.

Van Dijk was absolutely shocked by Timber’s performance and also stated that Timber is way ahead in terms of quality and development than him when he was his age. He added, ‘I wasn’t nearly as far along as he is now. I have nothing but praise for him. He is a great player and a true professional. He has so much potential. Hopefully, he can develop further. Then it will be all right, I think.”
