“He’s worth $112 million”- Louis van Gaal lauds Manchester United’s target Frenkie de Jong
Frenkie de Jong and Louis Van Gaal
Manchester United is expecting that Barcelona would accept their initial offer for Frenkie de Jong. According to Marca, United has made an installment offer costing a total of £68 million, which Barcelona is ‘seriously contemplating.’ De Jong was playing for Holland versus Wales around this time. He came off the sideline with the game still scoreless in the second half after being rested in the first.
De Jong played a key role in the Netherlands’ 2-1 victory, gaining the ball back for the game’s winner and boosting his team’s performance as he assumed control of the midfield.
Frenkie de Jong to move to Manchester United?
Louis van Gaal, the current manager of the Netherlands and former manager of Manchester United, has a way with words, and he had plenty to say about De Jong’s performance after the game.
“Of sure, Frenkie de Jong brings an extra talent,” Van Gaal said, according to Voetball International. That’s why he’s worth 112 million dollars.”
This wasn’t a figure that appeared out of nowhere. Van Gaal was referring to a study published by the CIES Football Observatory, which believes De Jong’s genuine transfer worth is £112.5 million euros.
Manchester United must hope that Barcelona did not read or hear Van Gaal’s remarks. Rafael van der Vaart, a commentator, lauded De Jong’s performance, telling FCUpdate: “This is Frenkie de Jong. Frenkie is on another level.”
Van Gaal was not questioned about the reports of De Jong joining Manchester United, which is perhaps for the best.
According to Marca, Erik ten Hag is attempting to persuade De Jong to join United by giving him a crucial role and that he would help create the squad around him.
