“I always support you” – Former Portugal teammate gifts Cristiano Ronaldo jersey of his current club AEK Athens

Bruno Alves posted a photo on his personal Instagram account from his visit to the Portugal national team where he presents an AEK jersey, a scarf and a model of the OPAP Arena to Cristiano Ronaldo.

The Portuguese sports director of the “Union” visited the Portugal national team and uploaded a photo of him posing with Cristiano Ronaldo after he had given him his gifts from AEK and one in particular jersey, scarf and mockup of the OPAP Arena. Bruno Alves tweeted this post to thank the people of the Portuguese federation, the members of the team and especially Cristiano Ronaldo and Fernando Santos who accepted to visit them.

“Thank you to all the people in the Portuguese federation who welcomed me and made me happy for this moment. I thank Cristiano Ronaldo for all the attention, but also for accepting the gift from my team AEK and I also thank Fernando Santos and all the players and staff for their warm welcome! Go Portugal, I always support you,” he posted.

Bruno Alves admits he was talked out of retirement this season by Portugal teammate Cristiano Ronaldo. After being cut loose by Famaliacao, the veteran defender admits he was ready to hang up the boots before Manchester United striker Ronaldo called.

Alves revealed, “[Cristiano Ronaldo] told me: ‘You have to keep playing. Take care of yourself and you’re in good shape. I know how much you like football, so don’t give up’. It changed my decision. It was great support from the best in the world. If Cristiano [Ronaldo] says to continue, then it’s because I can really continue.” Alves went on to sign for Greece’s Smyrnis.
