“I feel indebted to Lionel Messi”- FC Barcelona President hints the Argentine great can make a move back to the Catalan club

Lionel Messi

Lionel Messi left Barcelona last season after spending 16 years with the Blaugrana. What was worse was that the player was forced to leave Spain as the club couldn’t afford the player’s salary due to their financial distress.

The Argentine eventually signed for Paris Saint-Germain but didn’t enjoy the best of the season in France managing just 11 goals and 14 assists in 34 games for the French outfit. A rather under-par output for the 35-year-old being one of the best in the history of the game.

Lionel Messi could join Barcelona for free next summer

Messi signed a 2 year deal with PSG last summer as the Qatari-owned outfit was the only one able and ready to afford the Argentine’s salary demands. While there were many rumours suggesting he would leave them this summer, it seems Messi has decided to stay at park de Princes.

However, he will become a free agent next summer and could make a historic return to the club where he became one of the best players in football history. At least this is what Barcelona president, Joan Laporta feels.

Speaking to journalist Carodeles, he said, “I think, hope that Leo Messi story with Barcelona is not over yet. It’s still open, it’s our responsibility to make sure it has a more beautiful ending than it was. As Barça president, I feel indebted to Messi”.

Messi established himself as arguably the best player in history at Barcelona. In 778 games for the Catalonia club, he scored 672 goals and managed 303 assists. Not to mention the numerous trophies he won.

If a return to Catalonia is possible for Messi, the Argentine will surely be looking to take his chance once his contract at PSG expires.
