Steven Bergwijn opened to scoring for the Netherlands in their UEFA Nations League game against Belgium. The Dutchman was influential in his team securing a 4-1 victory over the Belgian side as they aim to reach the finals of the Nations League for a second time. However, while Bergwijn performed for the Netherlands, he hasn’t had that many opportunities at the club level.

Under Antonio Conte, Steven Bergwijn hasn’t enjoyed his time at White Hart Lane. This season, the Dutchman had just 4 starts in 25 appearances for the Lilywhites.

Moreover, when he pushed for a January move to Ajax, his wishes were denied by Conte who later even signed Dejan Kulusevki from Juventus. The Dutchman has now finally opened up on his miserable time and Tottenham and is desperate to confirm his move to Ajax in the Summer.

“I want to leave Tottenham Hotspurs now” – Steven Bergwijn is close to joining Ajax on a permanent deal

Steven Berwijn publically said that he wished to leave Spurs as soon as possible. After the Netherlands’ game against Belgium, the 24-year-old said, “I just need to go play. I want to leave Spurs now, that’s for sure.”

Speaking to Dutch outlet AD, Steven Bergwijn said, “Is it important that my new club plays in the Champions League? That’s not my top priority. It would be nice, but what’s important is that I’m going to play.’

“I wasn’t allowed to leave Spurs in the winter and then I didn’t have any problems. But for the last few months, I was hardly looked after there. I want to go and play somewhere weekly. It would be nice if there was clarity soon. My situation now has to be different”

Steven Bergwijn enjoyed a decent few seasons with PSV that prompted Tottenham to sign him in January 2020. However, he hasn’t been clinical in the Premier League. Hence a return to his country this time with Ajax could maybe reignite his career as he looks for regular game time.
