When asked by a fan if Chelsea will acquire Cristiano Ronaldo this summer, Thomas Tuchel laughed before responding, “I will not tell you.”
Ronaldo notified Manchester United that he wants to leave the team for a second time during the current transfer window, therefore his future at the club is still uncertain.
The 37-year-old is concerned that, after United missed out on qualifying for the Champions League in his first season back at Old Trafford, he would not be able to fight for the major honours with the club. As a result, several elite European teams, including Chelsea, have been considering a possible transfer recently.
Does Thomas Tuchel want Cristiano Ronaldo at Chelsea?
The Blues are reportedly considering signing Ronaldo, according to reports in The Athletic earlier this month, but Sportsmail understands Tuchel has concerns about the impact he would have on a fluid and dynamic frontline.
However, the Chelsea coach declined to rule out a transfer for Ronaldo with a sly grin in video posted on Instagram by an user.
Tuchel was signing autographs for fans when one of them inquired, “Do we sign Cristiano Ronaldo?” I will not tell you”, he then retorted with a wide grin on his face.
After Romelu Lukaku, a club record purchase, was permitted to return to Inter Milan on loan and score just 8 Premier League goals in 2021–2022, Tuchel really does need a new striker for Chelsea this summer.
On paper, it would seem like Ronaldo is precisely what the Blues are lacking at the center of their attack because he scored 24 goals for a United team in chaos last season.
Although Tuchel hopes to have a frontline that is adaptable and fluid like Jurgen Klopp’s outstanding Liverpool team that won the Champions League in 2019, Tuchel is worried that the ex-Real Madrid and Juventus forward’s inclusion might interfere with his plans.
Many believe that despite his impressive goal total, Ronaldo really had a detrimental effect on the balance of United’s attack last year, which led to the team’s sixth-place finish.
His Old Trafford contract is still in effect, and the Red Devils’ management is emphatic that a transfer will not be approved during the summer transfer season. But despite his absence from preseason workouts for “family reasons,” they would still need to make a significant choice if Chelsea made their rumored interest in them real.
