“I won’t miss this for the world” – South Korea’s captain Son Heung min declares himself fit for the 2022 FIFA World Cup

South Korea forward Son Heung-min, who has confirmed he will be available for the tournament, says he would not miss the Qatar 2022 World Cup “for the world.” After sustaining a fracture near his left eye during a Champions League match against Marseille at the beginning of this month, the Tottenham attacker’s participation has been doubted.
Prior to the midseason break, club manager Antonio Conte had already said it would be “difficult” for the player to play for Spurs, raising concerns that he would not make the World Cup at all. Son, who has scored 35 goals in 104 senior appearances for South Korea, has now said he will be able to play and that he want to travel to Qatar to support his nation.
“I just wanted to take a moment to say thank you all for the messages of support I have received over the last week,” the forward wrote on Instagram. “I have read so many of them and truly, truly appreciate you all. In a tough time I received a lot of strength from you. Playing for your country at the World Cup is the dream of so many children growing up, just as it was one of mine too. I won’t miss this for the world. I can’t wait to represent our beautiful country. See you soon.”

South Korea are placed in Group H alongside Uruguay, Portugal & Ghana

The 30-year-old Son, who was a member of South Korea’s sides in Brazil 2014 and Russia 2018, will now be competing in his third World Cup, thus the news of his availability for the team will be a huge boost.
The Spurs forward is one appearance for 10th place with Kim Tae-young and Lee Dong-gook on 105 caps for the nation’s men’s international football. He needs just one more appearance to reach that position. The Qatar World Cup begins on 20 November, with South Korea’s opening game against Uruguay on 24 November. Portugal and Ghana are the other two teams in Group H.
