In an interview, Chiellini has cleared all doubts about his retirement from international football after an 18-year-long career. Italy has failed to qualify for the 2022 Qatar World Cup after a tragic loss to North Macedonia in March. Chiellini had a long and successful career playing for the Azzurri and would like to bid adieu with ‘nice memory’.

“I’ll say goodbye to the national team at Wembley, which is where I experienced the pinnacle of my career winning the Euros. I’d like to say goodbye to the Azzurri with a nice memory. That will certainly be my last game with Italy,” said Chiellini.

The 37-years-old Euro Cup-winning captain has 116 international caps for Italy including two World Cup appearances, won the Euro 2020, were runners-up in the 2012 Euro Cup, and two FIFA confederation cups, are some of his achievements playing for the Azzurri. Chiellini updated he will continue to lead the Juventus side at least until the end of the ongoing season and after that will decide on his club’s future.
