Iran Football Federation wants Jurgen Klinsmann to resign from FIFA after his controversial remarks following Iran vs Wales contest at 2022 FIFA World Cup

Iran Football Federation demand FIFA resignation of Jurgen Klinsmann following his statements on Iran

Following Iran’s thrilling 2-0 victory over Wales in the 2022 FIFA World Cup on Friday, FIFA official Klinsmann was present on-set for the BBC as newscaster Gabby Logan started a conversation about Iran’s “gamesmanship” during the contest. Klinsmann continued by stating repetitively that it is “in the culture” of Iranians to behave badly by sniggering at referees.

“This is not by coincidence, this is all [done] purposely,” Klinsmann said, laughing pointing out Iran’s ethics towards the game. “This is just part of their culture, that’s how they play. They work the referee, you saw the bench always jumping up, always working the linesman, constantly in their ears, they’re constantly in your face.”

Former Germany striker Klinsmann made the remarks as a BBC pundit, infuriating Iran, which has demanded that FIFA remove him from their Technical Study Group. Iran has insisted on FIFA’s dismissal after Klinsmann stated they “worked the referee.”

The Iranian football federation released a snarky strike on Klinsmann, criticizing him for “dramatic dives” as a player and referring to Germany’s “shameful” show in the 1982 World Cup, in which they had an outcome with Austria so that both teams advanced as per Mirror UK.

Iran later issued a statement that said, “Iran Football Federation already asked for FIFA’s immediate clarification on this matter, demanding Mr. Klinsman’s apologies [sic] and the resignation of his duties as FIFA Technical Study Group member.

“Being a German, it is promised that Mr. Klinsmann will not be judged for the most shameful episode of the World Cup History, the “Disgrace of Gíjon” 82, when West Germany and Austria fixed a result.”

Iran Football Team manager Carlos Queiroz on Jurgen Klinsmann

The statement from the Iran Football Federation comes after Iran manager Carlos Queiroz hammered Klinsmann in a sequence of sharp tweets along the same lines. Jurgen Klinsmann stated that fouls and challenging officials are part of Iranian culture after Iran defeated Wales 2-0 in the 2022 FIFA World Cup.

The Iranian coach responded in a reply on his social networks, saying: “No matter how much I can respect what you did inside the pitch, those remarks about Iran Culture, Iran National Team, and my Players are a disgrace to Football.”

He requested Klinsmann to the Team Melli camp to meet the players and discover more about the group and the nation’s culture. “At the same time, we just want to follow with full attention what will be the decision of FIFA regarding your position as a member of the Qatar 2022 Technical Study Group. Because, obviously, we expect you to resign before you visit our camp.”
