Real Madrid vs Atletico Madrid never disappoints. The Madrid derby sparked fireworks as Atletico Madrid fell 5-3 at the hands of their eternal rivals. In a back-and-forth fixture, the Los Blancos finally emerged victorious after a full 120 minutes of nail-biting anticipation. Real Madrid’s fifth and final goal of the night came through Brahim Diaz in the 122nd minute of the game. Netizens have labelled the goal as ‘hilarious’ and here’s why.

The Supercopa de España saw Real Madrid clinch a late victory against their local rivals. Late goals from Joselu and Brahim Diaz helped Real overcome a fiery Atletico side who took the lead twice on the night. Diaz’s late goal came much to the delight of Madristas but also forced a few laughs out of fans. It was the 2nd minute of injury time as the entire Atletico squad came up for a late corner.

This included goalkeeper Jan Oblak, who was well over the halfway line. As the ball was cleared from the ‘failed’ Atletico corner, Oblak and Diaz got into a race for the ball. Much to the dismay of Oblak, the 24-year-old thoroughly outpaced him.

Oblak saw himself outran by the winger even though he had a clear head start over the latter. Diaz then deftly launched the ball into an empty net to finally secure the win for Real from near midfield.

Real Madrid were on cloud nine after a thrilling encounter against their rivals finally tipped in their favor. However, relief and jubilation turned into laughter and celebration as Jan Oblak ‘let slip’ against Brahim Diaz in the final minute. Fans flocked to the comments to share their delight and laughter at the incident. One fan laughed at the Slovenian, stating how he had a ’20 minute head start’ and still got beaten by Diaz.

Others laughed at Oblak saying he mistook himself for prime Manuel Neuer. Others questioned why Oblak was so far out of his goal if he was not in the opposition penalty box. Some even laughed at how Oblak should have fouled Diaz before he got to the ball. Some were reminded of Gareth Bale‘s iconic goal against Barcelona, beating Marc Bartra to the ball in the 2014 Copa del Rey final.

With the win against Atletico Madrid, Real Madrid are now into the final of the Spanish Super Cup. They are set to face the winner of FC Barcelona and Osassuna which is set to kick-off at the Al-Awwal Stadium on Friday. As it stands, Real are top of La Liga while Atletico are 10 points behind in fifth position.
