Barcelona vs Real Betis: As it happened
Barcelona was ‘business as usual’ on Saturday, as they humiliated Real Betis with a 5-0 victory. However, the defending La Liga champs faced some resistance from Betis defenders in the opening 20 minutes, considering they defended in numbers and were organized. All it took was a lofted pass from Oriol Romeu to break the defense as Felix got on the end of it and rounded the keeper before netting the first from a tight angle. Also, the first goal for his new club.
Later, Andreas Christensen found Robert Lewandowski after Felix’s fake fooled the Betis defenders leaving Lewandowski one-on-one with Rui Silva. The number 9 made no mistake and slotted home to the bottom right corner. Ferran Torres became the first player after Lionel Messi to score a direct Free-kick for Barcelona after he found the net with a curler to score the 3rd goal of the game. Raphinha joined the party as well after getting on the scoresheet just minutes after being subbed on.
Finally, Joao Cancelo also bagged a debut goal after dropping his defender in the penalty area before unloading a blistering shot past Francisco Vieites at the far post. Xavi‘s side are now top of La Liga with 13 points in 5 games. Rivals Real Madrid are right behind with 12 points and a game in hand. Barca face Royal Antwerp on Wednesday for their Champions League opener.
