Real Madrid midfielder Jude Bellingham has been charged by La Liga authorities, following a complaint by Getafe, for allegedly using a slur at English winger Mason Greenwood. The 20-year midfielder used the ‘r*pist’ remark for Greenwood.

The incident happened during Los Blancos’ match against Getafe, last night. Bellingham was a part of the side, which defeated Getafe, with a scoreline of 2-0. Forward Joselu scored a brace, as the win allowed the club to climb to the top spot on the La Liga table. The former Dortmund player was captured on camera uttering a two-word syllable towards Greenwood after a rough tackle near the touchline resulted in the ball going out of play.

Despite the audio equipment not picking up the exact word he used, Getafe registered a complaint against the midfielder. Post-match, Getafe urged the La Liga delegate to note Bellingham’s comment officially, triggering an investigation. The 20-year-old midfielder’s dig at Greenwood is linked to the ex-United player being arrested in 2022, over r*pe and sexual assault charges, with the cases being dropped later in 2023.

If found guilty of using the slur, Bellingham might face a long-term suspension from the game. He could also be slapped with a hefty fine. Whether La Liga authorities will take any specific action against the player remains uncertain.

Fans praised the 20-year-old midfielder’s modest gesture, taking a swipe at Barcelona supporters for making him a target. Los Blancos’ fans attributed the love that the player received from supporters, as a reason for the Blaugrana fans to criticize the Englishman.
