“European soccer needs structural reforms,” Former Juventus chairman alerts leagues about Premier League dominance in upcoming years
Outgoing Juventus chairman warns European leagues of the threat possessed by Premier League.
Former Juventus chairman Andreas Agnelli
Former Juventus chairman Andrea Agnelli will be facing trial in the coming days over accounting issues within the football club. Agnelli resigned from the post of chairman after signing off from his duties on Wednesday. While he was making his farewell speech, Agnelli warned all the European leagues of the dominance Premier League in world football.
The ex-chairman of the club was one of the main architects of the European Super League projects. Andrea Agnelli, who was a major architect of Juventus’ return to the Serie A after the calciopoli scandal in the last decade, put his support forward for the new format of football even while stepping down from the position. “I believed and still believe that European soccer needs structural reforms to tackle the future,” Agnelli said via press conference.
“Otherwise we are heading for inexorable decline for soccer in favor of a dominant league, the Premier League, which over a few years will attract all the European talent and marginalize the others,” the Italian added. The ex-Juventus boss tried warning all the major European leagues of the impact English football is having in this era.
Andrea Agnelli witnessed numerous years of glory at the Allianz Stadium for over a decade. Although, ever since Cristiano Ronaldo‘s departure, things aren’t going right for the Old Lady. After years of service, the Italian businessman is now expected to face trial in the coming weeks. Reports suggest that Andrea also stepped down from his roles on the boards of carmaker Stellantis and family holding company Exor after this incident.

Why is the Juventus chairman Andrea Agnelli resigning from his post?
Andreas Agnelli and eleven of his fellow Juventus board associates are expected to appear in front of a jury. It was reported that the Italian club’s board members were entangled in a scandal together. They are accused of manipulating the accounting figures of the club, as the club has denied all misconduct.
Andreas Agnelli was with the club since 2010 and seemed emotional during his farewell speech in Turin. “My desire is to want to face the future with a clean slate, to have the freedom to think and act. And for this reason, it feels like a duty to take a step back from the boards,” he added.
The Juventus chairman’s time at the club has finally come to an end. The Italian giants have already appointed a fresh board, led by Gianluca Ferrero. He was appointed as the club’s new manager recently and is all set for an improved start to his campaign. How do you think Juventus would perform with their new board?
