“I see more respect from outside the than there,” Kaka slams Brazilians for their lack of respect and support towards the national team amidst the 2022 FIFA World Cup

Former Real Madrid player and 2002 World Cup champion Kaka has expressed dissatisfaction with the way many Brazilians support their country’s football stars and their lack of respect for them. Kaka, who has won every major football accolade, feels that some of his countrymen do not receive the praise they deserve for their achievements in the game.

Kaka made this argument when talking to BeIN Sport and mentioned Ronaldo Nazario as an example. “Ronaldo Nazario in Brazil is just a fat man walking down the street,” Kaka stated.

“It’s strange to say this, but many Brazilians don’t support Brazil. It happens sometimes. If you see Ronaldo walking around here, you will say ‘wow’, he has something different here. In Brazil, he’s just a fat guy walking down the street. Of course, many Brazilians love Ronaldo. I love Ronaldo, but the way he is respected in Brazil and abroad is different, I see more respect for him outside the country than there,” Kaka expressed his views.

The 40-year-old ex-footballer also discussed why Neymar, the current captain of Brazil, is not cherished by some of his fellow countrymen, claiming politics may be to blame. “At the moment, a lot of people in Brazil are talking about Neymar, but in a negative way,” Kaka continued.

“Maybe it’s because of politics, but Brazilians sometimes don’t recognize our talents.” Neymar made a video at the end of September expressing his support for Jair Bolsonaro in the Brazilian presidential race, which Lula da Silva ultimately won.

Neymar-led Brazil will face Croatia in the 2022 FIFA World Cup quarter-final on Friday at Education City Stadium. The Selecao destroyed South Korea in the previous round 4-1 with Neymar converting his penalty from the spot. As for Croatia, their tie with the Japanese could not be decided within 120 minutes and penalties from Nikola Vlasic, Marcelo Brozovic & Mario Pasalic ensured the 2018 finalists progressed to the quarterfinals this year.
