The former Real Madrid star Karim Benzema has found himself struggling as he is reportedly stranded on the island of Mauritius due to a severe cyclone. This news has hit the brakes on his absence from the Al-Ittihad pre-season training in Saudi Arabia.
He was earlier expelled from the team by manager Marcelo Gallardo, who had also excluded him from the squad’s trip to Dubai. However, Benzema’s entourage and camp had also confirmed that he could not return to training due to the tropical storm in Belal.
These unexpected events have added to Benzema’s tumultuous relationship with the club, which had earlier sacked manager Nuno Espirito Santo due to him. He has since faced much criticism from the club’s fans, who have labeled him as ‘Ben-Hazima,’ which means the son of defeat due to his recent disappointing performances.
As Benzema continues to be trapped away from his team, his absence serves as a crucial problem to the team, and their training sessions also hinder their chemistry without the player. Despite scoring 15 goals in 24 games for the club, the former Ballon d’Or winner may also be away from the Middle East due to his problematic time. It has also been reported that Al-Ittihad might be considering replacing him with Angel Correa, who was recently robbed at knifepoint.

Manchester United is reportedly exploring a six-month loan deal for Karim Benzema, the Al Ittihad star currently under intense transfer speculation. The 36-year-old has been prolific in the Saudi Pro League, scoring 15 goals in 24 appearances, attracting interest from the Red Devils. He has also missed six training sessions and has been excluded from the squad.
According to Javier Parra Pena, United is actively considering a short-term loan arrangement for the former Real Madrid forward, who is seeking a return to Europe in this transfer window. Here are some of the reactions of the fans on social media:
Benzema, renowned for his legendary stint at Real Madrid, scored an impressive 354 goals in 648 games for the La Liga giants. Linked with Old Trafford in 2009 before joining Real Madrid, Benzema’s potential arrival would bring valuable experience to United’s frontline. With Rasmus Hojlund and Anthony Martial currently at Erik ten Hag‘s disposal, the addition of Benzema could offer both goal-scoring prowess and mentorship to the younger players in the squad.
