Karim Benzema celebrate after scoring a goal.

Real Madrid player Karim Benzema revealed his favorite Real Madrid squad in a recent interview. He has exclaimed that Jose Mourinho’s 2011/12 was the best squad that he has ever played with and that it’s a shame they did not win the UEFA Champions League that season losing to Bayern Munich in the semi-finals on penalties.

Jose Mourinho was brought in by Real Madrid in 2010 after his Inter Millan’s treble-winning season and Real Madrid’s whole approach to a game was changed by his tactics. He completely changed the dynamics of the squad and created a line-up that had strong bench support as well and was feared by all other European heavyweights.

Real went on to produce one of the most dominating performances that season, winning a record 32nd LaLiga title amassing over 100 points scoring a total of 121 goals with an unbelievable goal difference of +89. Cristiano Ronaldo was the top scorer that season scoring 60 goals in all competitions.

What was so special about the 2011/12 squad?

The deadly 2011/12 Real Madrid line-up.

The 2011/12 Real Madrid squad was full of stars and it was a real shock that the club couldn’t win the treble that season. The squad had the iconic local boy Iker Casillas at goal, with Pepe and Ramos filling duties at the centre, Arbeloa and Marcelo as the prime full-backs with Coentrao also favored in big matches.

In the midfield, Mourinho had a hard time choosing three players as the club had the likes of Xavi Alonso, Kaka, Khedira, Modric, and Ozil in the squad. Finally, at the attacking side of the pitch, it was always the iconic wingers: Angel Di Maria and Cristiano Ronaldo filling in and both the strikers, Benzema and Higuain would get chances in alternate matches.
