Real Madrid were up against local rivals Atletico Madrid in the Supercopa de España semi-final on Wednesday. Even though late goals from Joselu and Brahim Diaz earned Los Blancos the win, it wasn’t without Kepa Arrizabalaga‘s ‘usual’ errors and mistakes in goal. A recent story posted by the wife of ‘backup’ keeper Andriy Lunin seemingly holds a ‘cryptic’ message aimed at second keeper Kepa.

Real Madrid #1 Thibaut Courtois has been sidelined with an ACL tear which he suffered back in August of 2023. With his expected return to be no sooner than May, Carlo Ancelotti has been deploying both Kepa and Lunin in goal ever since. Following Kepa’s ‘errors’ in goal against Atletico, an Instagram story posted by Lunin’s wife, Anastasiia Tomazova takes a dig at Kepa.

Kepa tumbled into Alvaro Morata in an effort to clear the ball but ended up blinding Antonio Rudiger, who directed the ball into his own net.

Several fans hounded Kepa for this particular error while others pointed out how Antoine Griezmann‘s goal in the first half would’ve been saved had it been Lunin in goal.

Real Madrid overcame local rivals Atletico at the Al-Awwal Stadium but with much difficulty. The reigning Copa del Rey champions were given a run for their money against Diego Someone‘s side in the semi-final of the Super Cup. Following the intense clash, Real boss Carlo Ancelotti named two of his players responsible for inspiring the comeback win against their rivals.

He said:

Joselu and Brahim won us the game. This is very good for us and all the players are motivated.

It was their striker Joselu that tipped the game in their favour thanks to a header from Dani Carvajal‘s cross in the 116th minute. Furthermore, Brahim Diaz finished off the game in style with a late counterattack, which was initiated by none other than Joselu.

His clearance from Atletico’s late corner fell invitingly to Brahim Diaz who made no mistake to outpace Oblak and finish off the game. The final of the Supercopa de España is scheduled for the 15th of January, and will be between Real Madrid and the winner of FC Barcelona and Osassuna. The second semi-final will also be held at the Al-Awwal Stadium on Friday.
