Paris Saint Germain superstar Kylian Mbappe has slammed fans for their treatment of Lionel Messi during his time at the club. The French striker felt that Messi didn’t deserve that treatment.
In a recent interview, Mbappe criticized the supporters for their whistles, “leave the club” chants, and boos they did toward Messi. The 2018 World Cup winner said that he thought it to be very unfortunate that a player like Messi faced all of this. Mbappe said, “We’re talking about potentially the best player in the history of football. Personally, I haven’t really understood why so many people were relieved that he was leaving. We’re talking about Messi, he should be respected. But instead, he didn’t get the respect he deserved in France. It’s a shame, but that’s how it went. He’ll have to be replaced as best as possible.”
Messi is set to join MLS side Inter Miami after he ended his stay at PSG following a two-year stint at the club. Although Messi was offered a Billion dollar contract to join Saudi side Al Hilal, he refused to play in the Gulf country.
He also had a chance to make a dream return to his boyhood club FC Barcelona, but he was unsure of their financial stability and didn’t want to face the same fate he did two years back when he had to leave the club as they couldn’t renew his contract.

Mbappe opens up about PSG’s reaction to his letter, says he doesn’t pay much attention to criticism
Kylian Mbappe was reportedly surprised by PSG’s reaction to his letter. The French striker sent a letter to PSG hierarchy mentioning that he won’t further extend his stay at the club after 2024. Although he has a one-year extension clause in his contract, Mbappe clearly won’t be triggering it. The attacker has been further linked with a move to Real Madrid, from who he received a contract offer last year but he chose to stay in PSG.
In a pre-match interview, Mbappe talked about his thoughts on the club’s reaction to his decision not to extend his stay. He said, “I just sent a letter but it was a time ago, not during the international break. Honestly, I did not think I was going to offend anyone. I only sent a letter. I didn’t know a letter could kill someone. It’s just a letter. I don’t care about the reactions.”
In the interview, Mbappe also talked about how the criticisms that his decision is attracting don’t have any impact on him. Mbappe said, “Explain why I plan to stay without renewing. Guys, there’s nothing to explain. I have my own reasons. My only option now is to stay at PSG, I already said that. People can talk, criticize… I know why I do what I do and why I say what I say. People don’t have all the information.”
