La Liga prohibits Barcelona from signing new players even in next summer transfer window

Barcelona has already used all of their financial handles making the road a bit more difficult

La Liga prohibits Barcelona from signing new players even in next summer transfer window

La Liga President Javier Tebas sparked a huge blow for Barcelona as he claimed they will not be able to sign players next summer. This resulted from their deep financial woes caused by years of poor decision-making in the transfer market and extravagant player salaries. The pandemic further shattered their commercial and matchday income adding fuel to the fire.

Barcelona has struggled in recent years after the departure of Neymar to PSG for a record fee of €222 million which constituted the most expensive transfer ever. They have underperformed since and all high-profile signings made have not lived up to the expectations despite splashing about €160 million for Philippe Coutinho making him the world’s second most expensive player at the time, and the most expensive midfielder as of 2022, and €105 million for Ousmane Dembele. This has led to Barcelona being severely in debt and on the verge of bankruptcy. Tebas insisted that the club has failed to adjust its finances, resulting in the outburst.

It is not the first time that Barcelona and Tebas have clashed. Their disputes have been subjects of public interest. Barcelona accused him of trying to block Gavi’s registration in La Liga to give their bitter rivals Real Madrid an advantage over them as Tebas has publicly admitted he is a Madrid fan. He has also been criticized by Joan Laporta for not being able to register Lionel Messi to the squad. However, the La Liga President denied any such reports and cited Barcelona’s financial situation and failure to balance their finances as the reason.

It is Barcelona who has found the winning goal in a feisty match against arch-rivals Real Madrid in the first leg of the Copa Del Ray semi-finals. The Los Blancos could not find the winning goal despite dominating possession and the match stats. Blaugrana will be glad they are back to winning ways after a disappointing early exit from the Europa League and failing to steer 10 points ahead for contention for the league title.

Barcelona wasn’t extraordinary in the game and won courtesy of an own goal my Eder Militao. Madrid will be disappointed as they had a huge advantage over the Blaugrana as they were missing several key players including star striker Robert Lewandowski, the young sensation Pedri and an in-form Ousmane Dembele.

Barca now have a slight advantage going into the second leg and will hope to keep at least a clean sheet which will guarantee them into the finals of the tournament. Madrid on the other hand will wish to bounce back to winning ways.
