Lamine Yamal has stated how his family feels about playing for Barcelona. “My mother is afraid when I start a game,” he said. Making his debut before even turning 16, at 15 years and 305 days, he is the youngest player ever to win a game in the La Liga.
At 16, now, he is a Spanish champion with Barcelona already. He is currently the youngest-ever player to play for Barca’s senior team. With so many records being broken by the young Spanish forward, it should come as no surprise that the teenager has his mother worried as the boy has big expectations on his shoulders. The Camp Nou crowd is watching.
Barcelona has produced yet another amazing talent through La Masia. With Pedri and Gavi already making headlines as the future of Spanish football, the Catalonia giants have already added to Spain’s arsenal with the 16-year-old forward. Manager Xavi rates the teenager quite highly, “His decision-making is almost always the best and often the best. That is the most difficult thing in football. He is extraordinary.”
While the mother’s worries about her teenage son starting for Barcelona are understandable, the young Yamal is not afraid because he believes he has gained Xavi’s trust.

Lamine Yamal shines against Villarreal
A game stuck at 3-3 by the 70th minute. Lamine Yamal proves to be the difference maker as he cuts inside, beating his man. His shot is saved but the rebound falls perfectly for Robert Lewandowski who ends the game 4-3 in favor of the Blaugrana. The talismanic Polish striker scored the winner, but the attention was all on the 16-year-old who created the goal out of nothing for Barcelona.
The left-footed 16-year-old had an impressive performance away from home. A perfect cross to Gavi allowed Barca a two-goal cushion against Villarreal. A point worth noting is how confident the teenager looks. He plays for Barca as if he was an established starter. Fearless on the pitch, his dribbling, quickness, and shot which caused the 4th goal were tremendous. At the age of 16 where many aspiring football players are playing U-18s, Yamal is carving the Villarreal defense like butter. No care that he is up against veterans of the game or players who have won trophies before he even kicked a ball.
Fans will be hoping his meteoric rise is not halted by injuries. Ansu Fati who was similarly lauded as the next big thing has had his career trajectory take dips due to some terrible injuries.
