On Sunday, Lionel Messi was at his majestic best, scoring all five goals in Argentina‘s 5-0 triumph over Estonia, shattering still more records.

Messi was picked in Lionel Scaloni’s strong starting XI, and the seven-time Ballon d’Or recipient was clearly in the mood to enhance his spectacular statistics in the international arena.

He became the first-ever player in footballing history to register such humongous numbers. The Argentine has become the first player to reach 1100 goal contributions. The little master has scored 769 times and assisted 331 times in just 974 appearances to achieve this enormous feat.

The 34-year-old scored his first goal from the penalty spot in the eighth minute and added the second on the brink of half-time. Before the final whistle, he provided a brilliant display and netted three more times. He scored two more goals in the remaining 20 minutes after completing his hat-trick two minutes after the halftime.

Argentina’s undefeated streak now stands at 33 games, only four games behind of Italy‘s international milestone of 37 games without a loss.

The little magician has now scored 769 goals in his career, surpassing Pele. In Sunday’s game, Messi came in three goals trailing Pele, but it required him just 47 minutes to draw level with the Brazilian legend, and he went on to score two more goals before the end of the game to keep his lead over the legendary striker.

After scoring 86 goals for his country, Messi has extended his record as the top-scoring player for a South American country. Pele scored 77 goals for Brazil over his fourteen years with the national squad, but Messi is currently nine goals above Pele after surpassing the record last year.

With his five goals against Estonia, he has become the only player in European Cup and international games to score five goals. Messi scored five goals against Bayer Leverkusen in the Champions League round of 16 in 2012. He was at it again ten years later.

Messi has firmly established himself at the summit of Argentina’s all-time best scorers list. He currently has 31 goals more than his nearest competition, Gabriel Batistuta, after bringing his individual total to 86.
