Lionel Messi was once again named as the best player for 2023 as he was crowned FIFA The Best on Monday night. However, the Argentine was absent from the ceremony, as former Arsenal and Barcelona forward Thierry Henry accepted the award on his behalf. As Henry did so, the Frenchman took a brutal dig aimed at co-host Reshmin Chowdhury that has netizens in splits.

The Argentine was voted to the title for a record 3rd time, making him the only Men’s player to do so since the inception of the award. Moreover, the Argentine was level on points with Erling Haaland and won the title solely for receiving more ‘5-point’ votes from National team captains. Several notable captains, including Luka Modric, Kylian Mbappe, and Harry Kane cast their votes for the #10.

Henry bantered that ‘Spursy’ was one of the most liked comments in the comment section. Some, however, opined that Henry should not have said that during such an event. Others mocked how Henry was in the wrong as well, stating that an International trophy isn’t something an Arsenal fan should be talking about. Several comments were aimed at how Lionel Messi did not deserve the award.
