Lionel Messi set to leave PSG after end of 2022-23 season: Reports
Lionel Messi
In 2021, the Argentine hero Lionel Messi agreed to a two-year contract with Paris Saint-Germain. The future of Lionel Messi is uncertain as his current PSG deal expires in the summer.
However, as that contract is set to expire in the summer of 2023, it is still unknown where he will play football in 2023–24. The Argentine hero presently has no clear options, according to sources. Despite rumours that PSG wants to extend his contract by one year, the French powerhouse has not yet presented that offer.
Messi, has not received any contracts from any other parties, either, so he will become a free agent once more in nine months if nothing changes. Although the seven-time Ballon d’Or winner wants to lead Argentina to victory in the World Cup, his attention is on that competition.
Lionel Messi will decide on his future with his club team after the World cup is over
When the group stages begin in November, Lionel Scaloni’s team will compete against Saudi Arabia, Mexico, and Poland. They will be eager to improve upon their runner-up finish from 2014 by winning the prestigious trophy on December 18 in Doha. Despite transfer return rumours, the player’s former club Barcelona has not spoken to him personally since his painful departure in August 2021.
Messi departed his childhood club last year when his contract expired and the team could not afford to extend it. He was willing to accept a significant wage cut to stay, but due to Spanish employment legislation and LaLiga financial restrictions, no extension was conceivable.
Even though he won the title, Messi had a difficult first season at PSG despite joining on a free transfer. He formed a lethal striker trio with Neymar and Kylian Mbappe. He had his lowest goal total since joining Barcelona regularly in 2005–2006, with just six league goals.
