Liverpool ran riot against West Ham United at Anfield on Wednesday. The Reds unleashed their frustration from last weekend’s 0-0 draw against Manchester United on the visitors. A depleted West Ham side were subject to 5 superb goals from the home side, 4 of which came in the second half. However, it was Liverpool’s opener that made headlines.
Referred to by many as Liverpool’s ‘signing of the season’, Dominik Szoboszlai‘s goal exemplified just why he owns that title. In the second half, Liverpool proceeded to show no mercy to the visitors, as Mohamed Salah, Curtis Jones, and Cody Gakpo all added to their tally. Liverpool ensured qualification to the semi-finals of the EFL Cup for a record 19th time with an emphatic 5-1 win. They join Chelsea, Middlesbrough and Fulham in the semi-final.

Szoboszlai’s goal was a sight to behold. West Ham were trying to play out from the back as a swift interception by Jarell Quansah gifted the ball to Szoboszlai. The Hungarian, who is known for his deadly strike let rip from well out of the area.
His ‘bullet strike’ flew well out of the reach of Alphonse Areola and into the back of the net. The #8 then proceeded to celebrate coolly in front of the crowd, with a finger pointed to his ear. The internet has been buzzing following his spectacular strike.
Fans react to Dominik Szoboszlai’s ‘screamer’
Anfield was witness to Dominik Szoboszlai’s pile-driver of a shot in the 28th minute. Fans were sure to make their excitement felt on social media. The Hungarian was showered with praise as one fan referred to him as the missing piece against Manchester United. Others called his strike a ‘thunderbolt’ and jokingly asked Areola to ‘pick that one out’.

A fan was quick to mention that Szoboszlai has a habit of only scoring ‘bangers’. Some, however, were disappointed that the Hungarian couldn’t replicate his performances earlier against Manchester United. Fans also mentioned the interesting statistic of 3 of his 4 goals for the club coming from outside the box. Subsequently, Szoboszlai ‘haters’ were thoroughly mocked in the comment section.
After a brilliant display against West Ham United, Liverpool now face their next challenge against title contenders Arsenal. The Reds are 2nd in the league and just one point behind Arsenal who are in first place. A win against the Gunners would see Liverpool sit atop the table for Christmas. Jurgen Klopp also labeled the games against Manchester United, West Ham, and Arsenal as a “testing point” of their season.
