Liverpool’s Alexis Mac Allister to square off against brother Kevin Mac Allister on his European Championship debut

Alexis Mac Allister is set to face his brother Kevin Mac Allister as Liverpool drew Union Saint-Gilloise in Group E of the UEFA Europa League. The brothers who started their youth careers together at Argentinos Juniors will now be playing against each other under the floodlights of European Football.

Alexis left the Argentinian side in 2019 for Brighton however was loaned back to the club and also had a loan spell at Boca Juniors. Kevin had a similar trajectory spending 2019 under the colors of Boca Juniors. Unlike Alexis, Kevin would not leave Argentina until 2023 after which he signed for Belgian side Union Saint-Gilloise. Kevin Mac Allister plays at the heart of the defense at Center-Back for the USG. With one appearance in 4 matches for USG, Kevin will be hoping he could play against his brother who plays for the 6x UEFA Champions League winners, Liverpool.

Kevin has not been as fortunate as his brother Alexis when it comes to International affairs. Alexis Mac Allister was part of the Argentina Squad which dominated International football. Winning the Copa América, CONMEBOL–UEFA Cup of Champions, and the prestigious FIFA World Cup. Kevin on the other hand has struggled in that regard unable to garner a single appearance for his nation. The player was called up for the U-20 squad back in 2017 however had to decline due to an injury issue. Since then the player has failed to make a single appearance for the country, even at the youth level.

While the brothers may differ in terms of careers, the two will have a shared memory together. The Mac Allisters will be making their debut in European Football together.

Twitter comedians came out in full force as most threads were spammed with photos and gifs of Kevin McCallister from Home Alone. Some joked about how the parents will be confused about who to support and some commented on how they never knew Alexis had a brother. Kevin Mac Allister will be hoping to make a name for himself as he faces not only his brother but European giants Liverpool.

This will be Liverpool’s first appearance in the Europa since the ’15/16 season. Jurgen Klopp was manager all those years ago and now after 7 years in the Champions League, he is set to lead them once again where he started. USG played in the Europa last season, eliminated in the Quarter Finals against Bayer Leverkusen. Last season was USG’s first appearance in a European Competition in 58 years. Now for a 2nd season running, they find themselves once again in Europe. They will be hoping to leave a mark on this Liverpool side.
