Al-Nassr announced the hiring of their new manager, Luis Castro, on Thursday. However, the coach’s contract duration was not revealed. Castro is the latest coach to be hired in the Saudi Pro League this week, after Jorge Jesus at Al-Hilal and Steven Gerrard at Al-Ettifaq, signings that were made earlier this week. With Castro’s coming to the league, his old comments on Al Nassr’s talisman, Cristiano Ronaldo, also resurfaced on social media on Thursday.

There have been reports that Ronaldo was given a voice in the decision to swap managers, with the five-time Ballon d’Or winner taking over as the man in charge in Riyadh. Castro, 61, has extensive coaching experience, lately at Botafogo in Brazil. He has previously coached for Porto and Shakhtar Donetsk. Castro is a fellow Portuguese and a big fan of Cristiano Ronaldo. Here’s what he commented about Ronaldo back in 2020-

“When you have Cristiano in your team, you should never let him go, he is the best player in the world, a machine that never stops. Ronaldo is like a building that has risen by itself, without anyone’s help.“ said Luis Castro back then.

Brazilian footballer Arthur Melo recently spoke about Ronaldo’s mentality and professionalism. Melo played alongside the Portuguese at Juventus during the 2020-21 season. Melo praised Ronaldo’s dedication and marveled at Cristiano-

“As an athlete and as a person, he is spectacular. He tries to improve every day. I remember that when we met at Juventus, in the dining room, he always looked at the rest of our plates and joked about what we had to eat.”

He is very professional. We had never before seen someone with his mentality. And as a player, there are the results,” he further added.  Arthur has had a poor loan season with Liverpool, sitting on the bench for the Premier League team. Melo since has returned to his parent club Juventus.
