“This is one of the worst,” Luka Modric takes a SEVERE dig at referee following Croatia’s World Cup elimination
Luka Modric blasts referee Daniele Orsato
Croatia’s captain Luka Modric went through a crushing World Cup exit against Lionel Messi’s Argentina at the Lusail Stadium on Wednesday. Although the Croatian captain felt that him team lagged behind Argentina in terms of gameplay, he blasted the referee for his decision making in a FIFA World Cup semi-final.
Luka Modric flagged World Cup Semi-Final 1 referee, Italian Daniele Orsato, as ‘one of the worst’ in the history of the game. Argentina demolished Croatia in a 3-0 victory but it all started with a penalty, a penalty which lowered the body language of each Croatian player.
In the 32nd minute of the game Croatian goal-keeper Dominik Livakovic brought down Argentine forwards Julian Alvarez but he clearly stopped his movement once the forward ran into him. In the replay, it was very much clear that Livakovic had no intentions to tackle Julian Alvarez but within a second, the referee awarded the penalty.
Croatian players crowded the referee but even the VAR did not help Croatia out as it has been seen in the World Cup, the referee have taken sensitive calls towards oppositions facing Argentina. The players are indeed on point, a team loses strength if a wrong decision is made not in favor of their team. Seems like decision in Qatar are meant to go towards Argentina just like it went away from Portugal.
Luka Modric’s shattering response towards the referee
That penalty decision was inaccurate and even that similar decisions were shared by pundits, Gary Neville, Roy Keane and Ian Wright. Luka Modric said, “Argentina was a fair winner of the game, they were better, they deserved to win, but these things have to be mentioned, I generally don’t do them, but today they have to be done,” via Argentinean outlet TyC Sports.
“I don’t like to talk about referees… but this is one of the worst. I don’t have a good memory of him, he’s a disaster. For me it wasn’t a penalty. Despite this, I don’t want to detract from Argentina. The penalty killed us. We have to recover for third place and win that game,” added Luka Modric.
Luka Modric’s appeal is justified as there and then their nation lost all its confidence. Apart from the Croatian Captain and pundits, Kovacic and manager Zlatko Dalic also pin point the nature if their first goal, calling the goal suspicious and in favor of Lionel Messi‘s Argentina.
