“Not because my hair is better,” Manchester City’s Pep Guardiola sarcastically reveals why he never gets sacked as manager
Guardiola has won seven league titles across three clubs.
Pep Guardiola replied expertly when asked why he was never fired during his illustrious managerial career. Guardiola took questions from the press ahead of Manchester City‘s return to Premier League action at Southampton on Saturday.
He goes up against fellow countryman and relative newcomer Ruben Selles who took over for Nathan Jones after his sacking earlier this year. Jones’ dismissal was one of 13 in England’s top flight this season. Antonio Conte, Graham Potter, and Brendan Rodgers are all recent victims of this ruthlessness.
Guardiola was also asked why he had never been fired as a manager ahead of Manchester City’s visit to St Mary’s Stadium. “I will tell you a secret, we win games,” he revealed. “If we don’t win games, I will be sacked.”
The Spaniard joked: “It’s not because my hair is better than the others. I’m not sacked because we win a lot of games.” Guardiola said that the massive investment in clubs could be a factor in the ruthless sackings.“In this country when I was younger, it always had the tradition to keep the managers,” he said. “What happens today with a lot of pressure for everyone, a lot of investment, in a way, I understand there’s a lot of pressure. Sometimes it works. Sometimes, it doesn’t. It is what it is. You have to adapt.”

Pep Guardiola on whether Erling Haaland will be fit in time to face Bayern Munich
The City forward missed last week’s 4-1 triumph against Liverpool and Norway’s two qualifiers for the European Championship during the international break. He has 42 goals this season, including 28 in the Premier League.
Haaland has already recovered, according to Guardiola, and may even start against Southampton in the Premier League. “He trained the last two days really good. He will be ready.” When asked if he needed minutes to be considered for Tuesday night’s Champions League quarter-final against Bayern Munich, the manager replied: “Bayern is our last thought. It’s Southampton – the Premier League is every day, every week. Depends on that.”
The 52-year-old has had a phenomenally successful managerial career, winning trophies with Barcelona, Bayern Munich, and Manchester City. This season, he’ll be looking to add a fifth Premier League title to his trophy collection as the Blues chase down top-of-the-league Arsenal. While City trail the Gunners by eight points, they have a game in hand and will face Mikel Arteta’s team later this month.
