The Manchester Derby being one of the most followed fixtures in the world, did not disappoint when it came to creating iconic moments. One such incident happened in the forty-second minute of the game when things got heated between players of both teams.

Phil Foden was causing all sorts of problems for the United defense. He was trying to drift into the box when Manchester United‘s Sofyan Ambrabat made a crucial trackback run. In that attempt, he made a nasty challenge on Foden winning the ball and tripping him.

This was followed by a feisty response from Phil Foden who was also the scorer of City’s third goal at Old Trafford. His frustrations were fueled when Amrabat tried to retaliate and Jack Grealish intervened in between pushing the Moroccon on his chest. Grealish was sly enough to not get under the attention of the referee but the incident resulted in both Amrabat and Foden getting on the official’s book with yellow cards.

The match remained very clearly one-sided even though United had some fair chance to convert which they miserably failed to do. Whether it was Rashford’s miss or McTominay’s shot which was saved by Ederson. United remained under the shadow of Manchester City throughout the game as they struggled for possession or control.

Erling Haaland and Phil Foden replicate ‘derby magic’ from last season

Recently fans were reminiscing on how two boyhood Manchester City fans had scored hattricks against United at the derby last season. Fortunately for the Cityzens, the two youngsters stepped up again connecting and humiliating the Red Devils at their turf on this occasion. While Erling Haaland talked about how he could have potentially gotten a hattrick again, he was still involved in all three goals for the Sky Blues.

Haaland converted a controversial penalty from the spot due to a pull by Rasmus Hojlund on Rodri. Later, Erling Haaland also converted a beautiful cross from City’s Portuguese magician Bernardo Silva with his head as he scored a brace and celebrated in front of the United fans.

He added to their wounds by helping Phil Foden, just like in last season’s derby. In the post-match interview, a confident Viking said that the United fans chanting ‘Keano’ motivated him. This links back 20 years to the fierce rivalry between Roy Keane and Haaland’s father, Alfie Haaland.
