Manchester United’s search for a striker is still going strong with only five days remaining in the transfer season. Regardless of whether Cristiano Ronaldo stays at the club, United is severely lacking in front men, with Anthony Martial being the only other competent target.

Fabrizio Romano claims that United has enquired about Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang, which was previously being reported. As Barcelona looks to unload the player, Romano claims that the 33-year-old would like to join Chelsea.

“It’s … true that United have asked about Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang,” Romano said. “But Aubameyang has an agreement on personal terms with Chelsea and has done for a long time. He wants to play Champions League football, and his priority is Chelsea, so let’s see. The Blues could also include Marcos Alonso in the deal, though Barca prefer for this to be discussed separately.”

The news does not fully rule out Manchester United in regards to the former Arsenal captain, but a deal now seems doubtful. During this transfer window, United have been linked to a handful of strikers, but it has been difficult to seal any deals.

Manchester United are reportedly close to reaching an agreement with Ajax to sign Brazilian winger Antony for €100m (£84m), with personal terms set to be finalized in the next 48 hours.

According to journalist David Ornstein, after weeks of negotiations, a deal between the Red Devils and the Dutch juggernauts is about to be reached for the 22-year-old winger. Antony will become Erik Ten Hag’s third addition from the Netherlands and United’s most expensive signing this summer.

Antony, one of South America’s most promising young players who shone under Ten Hag at Ajax, will give United’s forward options some much-needed attacking depth, and the move will also free up Marcus Rashford to return to the centre-forward position, where the England international has excelled recently.
