Erik ten Hag brought Lisandro Martinez from Ajax who replaced Harry Maguire in the starting XI, partnering Raphael Varane. And it has largely worked with Manchester United having one of the best defenses in the Premier League as David de Gea was awarded the Golden Glove with 17 clean sheets.
But it has left Maguire on the sidelines and he could push for a move away, though he still has two years left on his contract. According to the reports, the center-back would only earn half as much as his current £190,000-a-week deal at a potential next club. That would leave United footing the rest of the bill, which would amount to £10 million.
Having cost £80m in 2019 for the Red Devils, is now rated at around £30m. Maguire has just played 16 games in 61 matches this season. Victor Lindelof and even Luke Shaw have been picked ahead of him.
Maguire’s form has been bad for some time now and he had made a big error in United’s 3-0 loss to Sevilla in the Europa League. It saw them knocked out of the competition, one they were favourites to go on and win. Ten Hag added, “He has high competition there with Raphael Varane, who’s fantastic. Let’s say I’m happy he’s here and when we needed him he did his job. But it’s also a decision he has to make.”

Manchester United to approach Chelsea for Mason Mount
Mason Mount’s Chelsea contract expires in June 2024. Manchester United are looking at it and personal terms are not expected to be a problem if a deal can be struck. Mount has won the Champions League and Club World Cup with Chelsea since graduating from the academy.
Manchester United has made several inquiries over his potential availability this season and has been encouraged by his complicated situation at Stamford Bridge. Mount last played for Chelsea in April before undergoing surgery on a pelvic injury which ruled him out for the rest of the season.
The 24-year-old is a Chelsea academy graduate and has lifted the Champions League and Club World Cup since breaking into the senior team. He has also featured in three successive FA Cup finals.
