Manchester United on the verge of signing Ajax’s Antony for a whopping €100m deal: Reports
Anthony of Ajax linked with transfer news with Manchester United
Manchester United are reportedly close to reaching an agreement with Ajax to sign Brazilian winger Antony for €100m (£84m), with personal terms set to be finalized in the next 48 hours.
According to journalist David Ornstein, after weeks of negotiations, a deal between the Red Devils and the Dutch juggernauts is about to be reached for the 22-year-old winger. Antony will become Erik Ten Hag’s third addition from the Netherlands and United’s most expensive signing this summer.
Ajax reportedly rejected a €90 million (£75 million) offer for Antony earlier this week, and United were expected to counter with a better offer. The Manchester giants have done so, and the winger is on track to become the most expensive player ever acquired by a Premier League club, ahead of Harry Maguire and Paul Pogba.
Antony, one of South America’s most promising young players who shone under Ten Hag at Ajax, will give United’s forward options some much-needed attacking depth, and the move will also free up Marcus Rashford to return to the centre-forward position, where the England international has excelled recently.
Why Anthony to Manchester United is a huge risk for manager Erik ten Hag?
Without a doubt, Antony is a fantastic prospect with the potential to become a superstar for United, but the enormous financial risk taken by Ten Hag in bringing the winger to Manchester will be closely scrutinized by fans, and by doing so, he has already taken a significant risk in his time at Old Trafford.
After all, £100 million is a significant chunk of money for a 22-year-old from Ajax, and while Ten Hag is familiar with the player, there is no assurance that the Brazilian winger will be a success for Manchester United despite the coach and player’s hopeful indicators.
