After an entire summer transfer window of speculation regarding the future of the 21-year-old, Mason Greenwood has finally made the move to La Liga Club Getafe on a one-year loan deal. Manchester United have come to an agreement with Getafe over the loan deal. Allowing the player to resume his professional career in the Spanish top division. Greenwood will make his first professional appearance after being suspended back in the 2021/22 season.
Talks with multiple clubs, including Lazio, Al-Ettifaq, and Besiktas fell off due to complications. As a result, the Red Devils thought they might have to pay Greenwood’s salary until the end of his contract. However, on transfer deadline day, Getafe came through with a season-long loan deal. Even though the terms and conditions of the deal are yet to be revealed, sources report the absence of a loan fee in the deal. Greenwood will return to Old Trafford after his time in La Liga.
Manchester United have released a statement in support of the player. It was written that this move will enable Greenwood to rebuild his career away from Old Trafford. Further, the statement read that the club will continue to offer its support to Greenwood and his family during this time of “transition.”
Earlier, United made an effort to reinstate Greenwood into the club. However, the decision was met with mass unrest and opposition. This led to Greenwood and United parting ways in August.
