Manchester United ready with €80 million and double salary for Real Madrid Casemiro after failed Frenkie de Jong pursuit: Reports
Casemiro and Erik ten Hag
Manchester United have been linked with an ambitious move for Real Madrid defensive midfielder Casemiro, and he might be tempted to go. Man Utd has struggled mightily this summer to find central midfielders. The need to fill the position has become urgent as a result of Paul Pogba and Nemanja Matic leaving on free for Juventus and Roma, respectively.
However, the Red Devils have given up trying to sign Frenkie de Jong, who was Erik ten Hag’s top target. The Dutchman is unwilling to leave Barcelona because the Catalan giants still owe him €20 million in deferred wages.
Adrien Rabiot was considered to be an alternative, but United backed away from his demands for a raise after hearing from the Juventus player and his mother, and agent, Veronique. Unexpectedly, Casemiro has emerged as a contender. The Brazilian international was a regular for Real Madrid last season, playing 48 games across all competitions as Carlo Ancelotti’s team captured La Liga and the Champions League.
According to the report, the Red Devils are also prepared to pay close to €80 million for his services, and on a more personal note, his pay will double. For a player nearing the end of his career, €80 million is a sizable sum of money, but Madrid do not require any additional funds. But if they want to defend their Champions League and La Liga titles, they might need Casemiro the following season.
Why would Casemiro move from Champions League winners Real Madrid to relegation-threatened Manchester United?
The Bernabeu’s centre of the field is becoming more packed as a result of Aurelien Tchouameni’s €100 million transfer from Monaco, which added him to a group of midfielders that already included Luka Modric, Toni Kross, and Eduardo Camavinga.
After winning everything there is to win since moving from Sao Paulo to Real in 2013, Casemiro might be tempted to take on a new challenge. According to Ramón Alvarez de Mon, a Real Madrid journalist, Casemiro is also thinking about leaving because he would receive a significant pay raise.
Eight players are paid more than Casemiro at the Bernabeu, where he earns €215,000 per week. His former Real Madrid teammates Cristiano Ronaldo and Raphael Varane earn €613,000 and €404,000 before bonuses, though United’s contract offer has not yet been confirmed.
