Manchester United star might have to reduce his salary in order to stay in the team beyond January: Reports
David De Gea haven't been able to live up to the expectations of his manager.
Manchester United Goalkeeper David De Gea’s contract is set to expire at the end of the season and according to reports, Erik Ten Hag is looking at options to replace the Spanish star. Erik Ten hag loves playing from the back and De Gea is not very much comfortable with the ball at his feet and is regarded as one of the best shot-stoppers in the world.
So he could be allowed to find another club for the next season and Erik ten Hag might consider signing a goalkeeper who will suit his style of play. The Spaniard is currently among the highest-paid players in the league earning a staggering £280,000 per week and he might need to take a pay cut in order to continue his career at United for some more years.
However, when Ten Hag was asked about his first-choice keeper he said, “His first two games of the season were not his best performances but after that, you see he brings us a lot for the defense department and stability. As a person, also, I like him. I co-operate really well with him.”
Is De Gea’s time up at Manchester United?
According to the media outlet The Athletic, the two possible replacements for the United main man can be Porto’s Diogo Costa and Atletic Bilbao’s Unai Simon. Diogo Costa has been one of the big names of the season and recently saved a penalty twice against Club Brugge after the initial kick was ordered to be re-taken in the Champions League.
United scouts have been following Costa for quite some time now and a £30 million move is under consideration. On the other hand, Unai Simon has already beaten De Gea to the Spain number 1 spot and now looks to replace him at United as well. He has also attracted interest from both the London clubs, Arsenal and Tottenham with the Spurs considering him as the successor to long-time keeper Huge Lloris.
