Bruno Fernandes opened the scoring for Manchester United in the second half with a controversial goal. The Red Devils came from behind to win 2-1 against their noisy neighbors and reigning champions Manchester City. The Portuguese midfielder expressed his joy after beating City in the Premier League and had a few words to say after full-time.
Manchester United had a sloppy start to the season as they look unorganized at the start of the season. A low-tempo performance from the players cost United loads of points. Since their team’s 4-0 defeat to Brighton, Manchester United hasn’t lost a single game in the Premier League. Referring to that unfortunate game, Bruno Fernandes made comments in the press conference which were misinterpreted by many fans.
“[We] used to be individuals, now we are a team. You can see a proper team that works for each other.” Many fans thought that the midfielder was trying to take a dig at international teammate Cristiano Ronaldo for his time at the club. However, Bruno immediately dismissed these claims via his social media. He explained that he had nothing but respect for the veteran striker.
“Cristiano was part of our team for half of the season and as I said in many interviews EVERYONE since Liverpool is being amazing and acting like a proper team and you can see the results on that! We carry on,” he said via his Instagram. “Don’t use my name to try to attack Cristiano,” the Portuguese international defended his former teammate.
A look at Manchester United’s progress since Cristiano Ronaldo’s departure
This might sting a little to CR7 fans, but ever since he left the club, Erik Ten Hag and his men have been performing exceptionally. With the help of in-form players like Marcus Rashford and Casemiro by their side, the Premier League giants are flying in the competition. Is this a coincidence?
Cristiano Ronaldo left his boyhood club after things went south between the two parties. Ronaldo’s controversial interview with British broadcaster Piers Morgan left the owners with no option but to end their relationship with the striker for the sake of their own dignity.
Manchester United currently sits at the 3rd position in the Premier League with a brilliant recent league record. It finally looks like this United team will be able to compete for the top 4 spots, despite losing their star striker. Where do you think Manchester United would finish this season?
