“You run the risk”, Manchester United’s Erik Ten Hag blames poor scheduling for Marcus Rashford’s injury
Eric Ten Hag angry with the schedule as Marcus Rashford goes out injured
The injury of Marcus Rashford has left Eric Ten Hag furious in the press conference, Ten Hag expressed his dissatisfaction with the schedule of the premier league. He claims that the injury of the players is due to the too-tight schedule and back-to-back matches in the Premier League. He adds that he, right now, is not sure of the seriousness of the injury and has to wait for further updates.
Erik Ten Hag’s Manchester United faced Everton in an early afternoon kick-off. Two goals from Scott McTominay and Anthony Martial ensured a 2-0 victory for the Red Devils.
“You run the risk, the players can’t recover that quickly, we know all research that players need a certain period to recover and it accumulates. So then you run even more of a risk. It’s also part of the schedule that we now find ourselves in this situation and now we can only pray he is not dropping off,” said the Dutch manager.
Marcus Rashford was forced off the pitch in the late second half of the game. The 28-year-old striker was seen facing an issue in his groin while he tried to receive the lofted pass from Christian Eriksen. Although Manchester United secured a 2-0 victory against The Toffees, the Dutch coach complained that it would be difficult for them to keep up such a performance if the players don’t get adequate rest between matches.
Manchester United has played 9 games since the beginning of March including all competitions. The likes of Alejandro Garnacho, Luke Shaw, Christian Eriksen, and Donny Van de Beek have all picked up injuries in recent weeks. After an incredible run of form, the Red Devils suffered from a winless streak last month where they failed to score in three matches. They even lost their place in the top four to Newcastle United.
Possible Replacements for Marcus Rashford.
Rashford has been the most important attacker for the Reds. The influence of Rashford will be difficult to replicate. The English Center forward has scored 15 Premier League goals and four assists playing all 29 matches for Manchester United this season. The injury of the player will be a major concern in the United dressing room before their upcoming fixtures of this month.
The likes of Anthony Martial, Antony, Jadon Sancho, and Wout Weghorst should step up in the shoes of Rashford during the span of his absence. Players like Anthony Elanga and Facundo Pellistri could get a look in during this period of the absence of the English forward.
The Dutch Boss is confident in the caliber of Anthony Martial who could be a good alternative for Rashford. The French striker scored a goal in the 71st minute of the game after coming on as a substitute. The 53-year-old said that he knows how clinical Martial can be when he is fit. “Martial, when fit, he will contribute. No doubt, we’ve seen already when he’s on the pitch, he makes a difference to the team, see Man City, see Liverpool. We have to keep him fit, he has to keep himself fit, then he will contribute, then he is a threat to the opponent and he can be clinical as well,” said Ten Hag.
