Manchester United’s work rate was absolutely spot on as players sprinted 19 km more in the match against Liverpool than Brentford

Manchester United has turned the tide in their favor as they thrashed Liverpool last night to seal a 2-1 victory. This marked their first victory in Premier League over Liverpool in four years and also their first victory of the season and also ending Liverpool’s 21-match unbeaten streak. Manchester United ran riot last night against an injury-stricken Liverpool side

Jadon Sancho, Scott McTominay and Marcus Rashford celebrate after the first goal

Despite the high possession percent of 67, Liverpool was nowhere near their usual best. With a lot of key players like Jota, Nunez, Matip, Konate, and Thiago sidelined due to injury, it was a real test for Liverpool to come at Old Trafford and get away with three points. The weak midfield was caught in the limelight time after time as the United players keep on pressing them and a lot of through balls were played.

With a bold decision from Erik Ten Hag dropping captain Harry Maguire and talisman Cristiano Ronaldo on the bench, it all paid off as his side fought brilliantly to come up with all three points and put an end to their successive defeats. His side was much more disciplined with just three bookings and just 11 fouls compared to the 15 fouls in the last match.

James Milner who had to fill in the midfield duties due to his team’s absence of players was troubled time and time again as United made a total of 273 passes, 57 being long passes, and maintained a passing accuracy of 65.9.

Erik Ten Hag decided to play Raphael Varane in the defense and his experience paid off having started the new signing Tyrell Malacia ahead of Luke Shaw also paid off quite well as he created problems for both Alexander-Arnold and Salah during the course of the entire match.
