Former Belgian midfielder Marouane Fellaini, at 36, announced his retirement from football after an 18-year career that began at Leige. Following the announcement, a video of the former Manchester United star emerged of him injuring a steward with a mishit shot, against Liverpool in 2018.
Ex-Premier League star announced his decision to retire from the game, in an emotional social media post, after leaving the Chinese club Shandong Taishan, three months ago. Fellaini spent four years in the Chinese Super League, following 12 years in the Premier League, with the Red Devils and Everton. Tributes flowed in as Fellaini reflected on his future plans, expressing a readiness for new challenges.
Meanwhile, an old video of a match between United and Liverpool from 2018, resurfaced on the internet. United were on their way to a 3-1 defeat to the Reds when Marouane Fellaini made an ambitious attempt to score a goal in the final moments of the match.
Eager to make an impact, the Belgian aimed a half-volley, but it veered wide of the goalpost, away from goalkeeper. The ball unexpectedly struck a steward sitting beside the pitch, causing him to fall off his stool.
The incident caused a lot of uproar on social media then, with some fans claiming that the player had nearly killed the steward. However, to everyone’s surprise, the individual who was struck managed to stand back up and remained unharmed.

Belgian midfielder Marouane Fellaini announced his retirement from football, concluding an illustrious career, which included playing for clubs like Manchester United and Everton, in the Premier League.
The 36-year-old earned 87 caps representing the Belgian national team. Known for his heading ability and stamina, Fellaini was one of Belgium’s best midfielders, primarily operating as a box-to-box player. He was a part of Belgium’s golden generation, featuring in three European Championships and two World Cups.
At the club level, he made 177 appearances each for Everton and Manchester United, scoring a combined total of 55 goals. Fellaini was an important part of the Red Devils’ 2016-17 Europa League winning squad. Afterward, he spent four years at Shandong in China, departing the club in 2023.
