Manchester United faithful continue to discuss the future destination of Mason Greenwood and his potential move from Old Trafford. As per the latest reports, the English star might be forced to take a wage cut if he intends to restart his international and league football career. Last week, the Crown Prosecution Service dropped all charges against Greenwood due to the lack of witnesses and evidence.
Additionally, Manchester United recently released a statement saying that they will conduct their own internal investigation before determining the next steps in the future for the former England under 21 International.
As of now, Greenwood remains suspended and will not return to the training ground or play in any fixtures until the club’s investigation is complete. United manager Erik ten Hag declined to comment on the player during a press conference and referred the media to the club’s statement.
Greenwood’s contract with Manchester United runs until 2025, but there is speculation that he may leave Old Trafford and restart his career abroad. Last week, a report from Dailymail.Uk stated that Greenwood is ready to restart his career in China. However, even such a move is expected to come at a huge cut from his current salary set up.
However, if the destination abroad is not China, what are the other possible moves for the Manchester United star, as it seems like Manchester United might be not ready to count on the Englishman!
Possible destinations for Mason Greenwood after Manchester Exit
Mason Greenwood could potentially move to many leagues that would allow him a much-needed ‘career restart’ the choices are likely to be, An MLS side, A club in the Saudi Pro League, the Chinese Super League, and a club outside of Europe’s top 5 leagues.
However, the average salaries offered at these clubs are nowhere near what the United Man star currently earns at Old Trafford, Greenwood reportedly earns 75k a week for Manchester United.
If he moves to the Far East, he must accept a reduction in his weekly wage of £75k to the capped salary of £50k per week in China, which might even rule out playing for in China.
Middle east, America, or still in Europe?
In the MLS, there are four players who earn more than Greenwood’s current wage. Lorenzo Insigne is the top earner, earning £200k per week, followed by Xherdan Shaqiri at £115k, Javier Hernandez at £95k, and Gonzalo Higuain at £80k per week. But MLS clubs will be unlikely to pay a hefty salary to a ‘youngster’ who is in the middle of such controversy.
Cristiano Ronaldo’s move to Al-Nassr in Saudi Arabia saw him become the highest-earning footballer, with an annual salary of £173 million. The second-highest earner at the club, Nordin Armabat, earns a reported £54k per week, which is just a fraction of Ronaldo’s wage.
There is a possibility of joining sides outside of the top 5 leagues in Europe but, the highest paid player in Portugal is Otavio with a 110k euros per and David Neres with 77k Euros a week but after that there is no player that earns more than Mason Greenwood at Manchester United.
Most sides would feel as if they are doing a favor to the Manchester United forward by signing a contract with the player. In conclusion, Mason Greenwood’s choices if he is forced to leave Old Trafford seem grim and the star will probably have to take a massive wage slash if he intends to reinvent himself elsewhere
