Mauro Icardi has just scored one of the most ridiculous headers this weekend for Galatasaray. The goal came against Samsunspor in the Turkish League. In the 67th minute of the game, Icardi headed in a goal from a ball that was traveling at 112 km/h.
Icardi joined Galatasaray in the ’22/23 season from PSG on loan. The Argentine was a huge prospect back in his Inter Milan and Sampdoria days. 121 goals in 217 appearances for Inter Milan secured him a move to a PSG side boasting the likes of Neymar, Mbappe, and Cavani. The center-forward, however, never got going the same way he did in Serie A. The striker scored double digits only once in three years in Ligue 1. Due to his poor performances, he was loaned off to Galatasaray where his Remontada began scoring 22 in 24 league appearances.
Icardi has had a blast in the Turkish league since joining on a permanent move this summer. So much so that the striker recently scored a header that was traveling at 112 km/h. Hakim Ziyech hit the ball towards goal – which looked like a shot – and Icardi managed to get his head on the ball changing its trajectory to confuse the goalkeeper. The Moroccan and the Italian combined to score a thunderous goal.
Mauro Icardi has been lighting up the Turkish league this season scoring 5 goals in only 4 games. Icardi won the Turkish League last season and will be hoping for more as the Turkish side has strengthened vastly with the signings of Hakim Ziyech and Wilfred Zaha. Galatasaray faces a tough group in the Champions League this season and will need their best players firing on all cylinders.
Mauro Icardi’s controversial career
The Argentine striker has been part of one of the most interesting careers in football. Not because of his performances on the pitch but rather his behavior off of it. The striker became a controversial figure after having explicit relations with his teammate, Maxi Lopez‘s wife. The news gained International attention with many condemning the striker for backstabbing not only his teammate but also his friend.
Even Diego Maradona addressed the issue in an interview. Fans have labeled this action as the catalyst for all things that went wrong for him. The player moved to Inter Milan in 2013. By 2014 he started his antics yet again and began losing the support of Inter Milan fans with his poor behaviour.
In 2016, the player released an Autobiography in which he attacked the Inter Ultras in the book. He was stripped of his Inter Milan captaincy among exit speculations and responded by refusing to play in the Europa League. He also excluded himself from the squad claiming issues in his knee. Club scans had revealed otherwise.
Mauro Icardi has finally found a home in Turkey. The fans love him, he is once again scoring goals and has already won the league with Galatasaray. It would be remiss of him to take this all for granted after his past actions.
