Kylian Mbappé and Giroud both scored goals to help France secure a 3-1 victory against Poland, setting them up for a match against either England or Senegal in the defence of their World Cup title. Giroud’s left-footed shot, assisted by Mbappé, was the 44th-minute opener, and saw Szczesny, who had made 18 saves in the World Cup until that point, beaten. With the goal, Giroud became France’s record holder for most goals scored, overtaking Thierry Henry with his 52nd goal.
Mbappé, who is currently the highest goal scorer, gained a goal in the 74th minute after taking his time to move up the field and receiving a pass from Giroud and Dembélé. He later scored again in extra time, taking a precise shot after receiving the ball from Thuram.
Mbappe, aged 23, scored a powerful right-footed shot that sailed past a diving Polish goalkeeper, Wozciech Szczesny, to give France a win. This goal equaled his tally from four years ago, making him the sole leader in the Golden Boot race.
