Former Real Madrid star Mesut Ozil is no stranger to social media and hot takes. The German midfielder regularly takes to social media platform X, tweeting about his views on the European football scene. Most recently, former club Real Madrid was the subject of his analysis, with Antonio Rudiger taking much of the praise. The 35-year-old showered praise on the defender, and went so far as to call him the ‘world’s best defender’.

Antonio Rudiger was brought in from Chelsea on a free transfer and has been worth his weight in gold. He currently earns around £7.5 million a year and is a regular starter under Carlo Ancelotti as of now. He has started 7 of the last 8 games under Ancelotti as the club are undefeated in their last 10 games. As for his former club Chelsea, the Blues have suffered when it comes to defense. Thiago Silva and co. have managed to keep just one clean sheet in the last 10 games.

He then drew parallels between the state at Chelsea after his departure. Ozil said that Chelsea are missing Rudiger’s mentality every day. Real Madrid’s most recent game ended 1-0 thanks to a 78th-minute goal from Rudiger.

Ozil has been posting his ‘pundit’ like takes on social media for quite a while now. Both Real and Ozil fans took his comment in high spirits and hailed Ozil as one of the best midfielders of his generation. A comment read that Ozil knows ‘ball’ more than most pundits in modern football. He was also hailed as being better than Kevin De Bruyne by some enthusiastic fans in the comments.

Fans then took to quizzing Ozil as to his opinion of several players in the current Real Madrid squad. From Aurelien Tchouaméni to Eduardo Camavinga, fans wanted to know Özil’s take on several players. However, others expressed their surprise as to Özil’s recent interest in social media. Comments like Ozil is still cooking Chelsea after retirement and comments criticizing his takes were also littered throughout.

Özil announced his retirement from professional football back in March 2023. He last played for Istanbul Basaksehir in the Turkish Süper Lig. The player boasts a 26.3 million following on Twitter, where he regularly tweets his takes on football worldwide. His account, however, has not been verified, hence leading to confusion as to whether these interesting tweets were posted by the World Cup winner himself.
