Ever since the Saudi Arabia government’s Public Investment Fund purchased a majority share in Newcastle United, there have been big purchases. It started with Bruno Guimares, who they purchased for £42 million in 2022. Since then they have purchased Alexander Isak, Harvey Barnes, Anthony Gordon and Sandro Tonali, who is currently banned for gambling.

Being one of the richest clubs in the world, the club recently announced losses of £73 million for the season of 2022/23. The Premier League dictates that each club is only allowed losses of £105 million over a rolling three-year period. With the loss of £73 million, they have already reached 70% of their allowed loss.

To ensure the club has some chances of escaping sanctions and penalties from the PL, they could be forced to sell their star players. Newcastle CEO, Darren Eales, confirmed that it was tough working under FFP restrictions and could look to sell players. As of now, their most valued assets are Alexander Isak, Bruno and Sven Botman.

Eddie Howe commented that the club would’ve been able to secure a signing so far, but the PL’s rules have restricted them. The manager had targeted Dominic Solanke as an option. The two worked together during their time at AFC Bournemouth, where Howe had signed him.

The club is also undergoing an injury crisis, with four first-team players out. The club’s most recent injury was of Joelinton, who went down during the Tyne and Wear Derby in the FA Cup. He is out for a minimum of six weeks.

Fans question how rules differ for each club in the wake of Newcastle United’s alleged troubles

Ever since clubs have been taken over by billionaires who have been ready to funnel money into their clubs, there have been numerous expensive signings. Chelsea and Manchester City are two clubs that were gifted with those opportunities. From teams that usually completed in mid-tables or relegation, they’ve turned into title challengers, with City even winning the Treble.

Despite their spending, fans have pointed out they have never been caught in a situation like that. Many noted how despite Manchester City having 115 charges, there have been no actions yet. Meanwhile, fans debated on which players they wanted.
