World Cup Winner Kylian Mbappe and PSG had a match to forget on Saturday. The defending Ligue 1 Champions were held to a goalless draw on Saturday. PSG had a largely frustrating evening while Mbappe was at the heart of the attack. However, the Ligue 1 top scorer was missing his shooting boots against Clermont Foot.

Following the game, Kylian Mbappe was mercilessly trolled on social media. A fan-based X post showed a 2-minute compilation of the French star against Clermont. The user captioned the clip, “Why is nobody talking about this Mbappe stinker yesterday against the mighty Clermont ???.”

The clip highlighted Kylian Mbappe’s struggles against an inferior side ‘on-paper’. He was unable to produce any of his usual brilliance on the pitch. The two-minute ‘fail comp’ features a series of errors. Moreover, every mishit, every overhit pass, and failed dribble was made a meal of, on social media.

However, in spite of Saturday’s performance, Mbappe remains top scorer of the League. The Frenchman has 7 goals in 6 games. Mbappe also recently returned from injury and had “3 defenders on him all game” throughout the match, said a fan. However, Clermont is 17th in Ligue 1 and a PSG win was expected by many.

Mbappe to Real Madrid has been the biggest transfer saga in football. The Frenchman has been linked to the Spanish giants for at least 3 seasons, with no considerable development in the case. Last season, the move was all but done when the player decided to renew with the Parisiens. The 24-year-old is currently on a one-year deal with the option to extend at the end of the season.

However, the star has yet to extend with the club. This calls for concern for PSG. Amidst links to Real, Nasser Al-Khelaïfi shared his thoughts. He was asked if Mbappe will be at PSG next season. The President replied that Mbappe is a PSG player and that he loves the club as well. Al-Khelaifi also called him the best in the world, saying, “We are very happy to have him and we will have him.”

There are reports that Mbappe is set to sign a pre-contract with Real. This is so that there are no last-minute complications like the last season. It was believed that Mbappe would join Real after the player was left out of the preseason squad. However, Mbappe ended up signing a one-year-deal with PSG. The Frenchman becomes a free agent in 2024.
